What makes death terrible?

Death is not end of story

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; (Prediction Mark 10:32-34) he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Apology for the resurrection

• Too incredible? What about power of God
• “Corruption” of the body – Jesus’ body is real
• Empty tomb
• Martyrdom

Resurrection completes salvation – not just added story (1 Cor 15:17-19)

Review why did Jesus die?

• Penalty of sin is death- need to be reversed
• Bondage of sin requires renewal

Jesus’ resurrection

• Resurrection as vindication (Is 53:10-12)- Jesus fought for a good cause and declared right (like a faithful soldier)
• Resurrection and the rise of the new nature (Rom 6:4)- The need to be born again (new start)

Summary of Christ’s work – Took our nature, destroyed the old, raised the new, glorified humanity (Christ put us on his back)

Why still sin? Simul Justus et Peccator (Sinful nature coexists with New nature)

Christian life (Rom 6:11-14) – Freedom from old pattern (response to insult)

Asccension – Completion of vindication (Phil 2:9-11)

• Ultimate seat of honor (worshipped)
• Union with God (Reverse fall)

Invitation to see our glory in Christ

• No more shame (Eph 2:4-7)
• No more striving for immortality (1 Tim 2:15)
